You may want to know the story behind this iconic manly mustache style. Well, the beginning of this style was like a coincidence.
During World War I, men, mostly soldiers started sculpting their facial hair into mustaches. The main reason behind this was it was very difficult to put on gas masks with a full-face beard. It never tended to be any style. Nevertheless, When WWI ended, president Howard Taft was seen by a unique style that had twisted edges on both sides. In the United States, the handlebar mustache was worn by many wild west figures like Wyatt Earp in the later part of the 19th century. That’s the beginning of this revolutionary style.
If the idea of having a handlebar mustache comes into your mind then first you should know what exactly. A handlebar mustache is a style that has long corner edges on both sides which are slightly twisted in a circular shape. People often mistake Dali’s mustache with a handlebar. Dali mustache has straight upward edges, on the other hand, the handlebar has twisted edges. Whilst you decide that you are going to have a handlebar mustache then there is one thing you must know you never should shave your mustache at least for 10 to 12 weeks, you gotta follow this rule before you get instructions about how to grow a handlebar. This is the basic and most important rule to keep most of the mustaches. When you are ready with your long mustache then follow the steps below to have your perfect handlebar styles.
But First, Here Are Some Things You Need To Have Before Digging In The Steps:
- Razor/Trimmer
- Shaving oil/Clear Shaving Gel
- Wax ( You may use hair spray or gel instead, but wax will give you a better result and it’s safe for the skin)
- Dry Blower
- Fine Toothed Comb
- Water
- Small Groom Scissor
Here Are The Steps:
Step 1:
First, you need to shave your beard. For safe shaving, prepare your face by scrubbing & cleansing with lukewarm water. You can also take a hot wet towel and press it onto your face for 1-2 minutes. This will make the beard hair smooth & will cut easily.
Step 2:
Start shaving where you have excess hair on the cheeks or on the necks or under your leaps using the razor or trimmer you have except for your mustache. At this point, clean shaving gel or shaving oil will help you with visible beard hair which you need to cut. Shave any excess hair besides your nose & leap with cautions.
Step 3:
Next, take your fine-toothed comb g to start combing in the direction it grows. Look for any hanged mustache hair on the leaps & then cut the ends using scissors. Don’t cut the edges in the end, those long edges will precisely indicate your handlebar. You just need to keep an amount of hair that fits between your thumb & index fingers of both hands so that you can twist it well. Make sure that both sides have the same length.
Step 4:
Wash your face with clean water & let it dry.
Step 5:
Take a generous amount of mustache wax & apply it evenly to your moustache. Then take the mustache comb again & start combing from the center, right out to the ends.
Step 6:
Next, take a bit more mustache wax and pinch the long edges of your mustache. Then twist and fold the edges several times unless all the hairs stick together.
Step 7:
Take the dry blower & start blowing the long edges of your mustache. During this keep twisting your mustache in the upward direction giving a circular shape. Do it on both sides and try to provide both edges with equal mustache curl.
Here it is, your most dramatic twisted mustache is ready to show the world. Now you don’t need to feel envy by looking at others’ handlebar. Just make sure you clean your mustache every day. For a permanent twist, you need to keep patience & follow the last two steps maybe for weeks.
