When the name Cowboy mustache comes in mind, probably you think of cowboys living in the countryside, wearing cowboy hats & shoes, riding a horse just as said in the âOld Town Roadâ song. Yes, you are right at some points of view. The main symbol of the cowboys are their mustaches. But it doesnât mean that this mustache style is only for the cowboys. It is claimed that cowboys have the best manly attitude. And the cowboy mustache represents the macho look, the toughness on a man. So that it is named after them. Â
Every now & again it is said that cowboy mustache looks like a scruff. Actually, itâs a longer form of the Chevron mustache. It can also be compared with the Handlebar mustache because it also has a twist in the corner edges on both sides. But the twists are not as dramatic as the Handlebar mustache has, neither that much rounded. It has just little downward twists on both edges. The edges are long enough to touch your bottom lip. If you are willing to keep a cowboy mustache then the first thing you should do is growing a Chevron mustache. If you donât know about Chevron mustache then read our article on styling Chevron mustache. That will let you know every detail about it. On brief, just let your mustache grow until it touches your upper lip. It may take up to 3 months to grow your mustache hair this big. When you are ready then follow the simple steps you will see below. But before that here are a few things that will help you with your mustache styling:
- Razor/Trimmer
- Shaving gel (Clear gel is better)
- Small Grooming Scissors
- Fine Toothed Mustache Comb
- Mustache Wax
- Optional: Dry Blower
Here are the simple steps you need to follow:
Step 1:
The basic thing for any mustache styling is to shave your beard. For a safe shaving first prepare your face by scrubbing & rinsing with lukewarm water. You can also take a hot towel and press it onto your face for 1-2 minutes. This will make the beard hair smooth & the shaving experience will be way better. Â
Step 2:
After preparing your skin start shaving. You must not shave your mustache. We prefer using clear shaving gel so that the mustache hairs stay visible. Be extra careful during shaving near your mustache. A simple mistake can ruin your mustache.
Step 3:
After shaving, take your fine-toothed mustache comb start combing your mustache to the direction it grows. Â
Step 4:
Take the scissors and cut the hairs which are about to cross your upper lip & just about to touch your bottom leaps. Donât cut the corner edges. Let them be a little longer at the length to your bottom lip.
Step 5:
Take the mustache comb and start combing again. Look for any bushiness or lengthen hair. Cut those very carefully.
Step 6:
Wash your face properly & let dry.
Step 7:
Take some mustache wax & start applying using your fingertips from the middle to the corner. Make sure that all your mustache hairs are applied with the wax. You can also use hair spray or hair gel if you donât have mustache wax. But for better results try to have one mustache wax. Those come cheap & one tube lasts longer.
Step 8:
Take some more wax & pinch the corner edges by using your fingers & twist them sideways. Continue this process for a few times. In this case, if you have a dry blower then the settlement of your mustache will be first and easier.
Now, what do you see in the mirror? A macho look right? If you want to continue this look then you need regular maintenance. Wash your mustache every day & follow the last 2 steps for a few days for a permanent mustache shape.
