You donât need to look at the legs of horses or search for a real horse to know how the Horseshoe mustache looks like. Hulk Hogan, Axl Rose & James Hetfield are the most famous figures who have been following this mustache style. Although the beginning of this style is not from them. It all started in the Wild West of America where the cowboys lived. And yes, this style also came from the cowboys living in the west just as Cowboy mustache. It is very difficult to find any real cowboy in the streets of America now a day. But sure you can find many bikers. Bikers often love to follow this mustache style. In the 70s, most of the bikers followed this mustache style. Thatâs why sometimes it is called Biker mustache as well.
The idea of horseshoe mustache is, itâs an ordinary mustache but with upside-down vertical extensions that look like bars by the corners of leaps. Those bar-shaped mustache hairs often touches the jawline, but no longer than that or no hanging part. It looks like an inverted U. Sometimes people mistake Fu-Manchu mustache with horseshoe mustache. Fu-Manchu mustache style also includes hairs look like upside-down bars but those bar-shaped hairs tend to hang from the jawline. Sometimes the Fu-Manchu mustache includes very long extended hairlines from both corners of leaps. But in case of horseshoe mustache, the mustache hairs don’t suppose to cross your jawline. Â
If you are wondering to have a horseshoe mustache then there is a good side & a negative side (probably) for you to know. The good is that the horseshoe mustache is one of the most low maintenance required mustache style & itâs quite easy to style. The negative side is that to do this style, you need a thick full beard. Thatâs why it is not for them who are having their beard at the initial stage or the people who have less beard growing. Maybe thatâs why it is known as the style for the wild men. It represents masculinity & wildness. So if you are someone with a thick full beard then skip the negativity.Â
As the preparation to style this beard you need to grow a full beard. The timing depends on the growth of your beard hair. Just know that you need at least 1cm long beard. If you have this then you are ready for the styling. You donât need any special thing to style horseshoe mustache. Just your regular trimmer, razor, shaving gel & mustache comb. Here are a few steps that will help you during styling: Â
Step 1:
The first thing you need to do is trim your beard. As horseshoe mustache required longer beard so that it will be easier to trim your beard before shaving. Before trimming make sure that your face is fully dried. Take the trimmer & set it between 3 to 5mm & start trimming. Start trimming from the sides of your mustache. Then trim parallel to the corners of your lips & draw a straight line down to the jawline. Trim along your upper lip & then the chick & throat. Donât trim the mustache. Â
Step 2:
Take the mustache comb & start combing your mustache from under your nose, downwards to your chin.
Step 3:
Now itâs time for shaving. First, you need to prepare your face for shaving. For this, you should exfoliate your face with a gentle face scrub & then wash your face with lukewarm water. You can also get a hot towel & press into your face for a while. This will make your beard hair smoother.
Step 4:
Apply shaving gel. We prefer clear shaving gel in case of any mustache styling so that the lines stay visible. Shave the area you trimmed to add extra details to your horseshoe mustache. Take extra cautions during shaving the mustache area. Wash your razor several times with clean water for a safe shaving & avoid hair blockage.
Step 5:
After shaving once, look for any unwanted hair, check the symmetry & complete the horseshoe shape.
Step 6:
After completing your horseshoe mustache wash your face with clean water. Pat dry & Apply a good quality aftershave lotion to rehydrate your skin.
Here it is, your masculine look is ready. If you have any mustache wax then apply a small amount to your mustache & comb. This will give your mustache a more neat look. One thing to remember, though your horseshoe mustache donât need much maintenance but you should at least shave regularly to keep the shape visible & attractive. Â
