The name “Fu Manchu” sounds like Chinese; that’s the thing say most of the people whenever they hear the name for the first time. Well, the origin of this mustache style is actually China-related.
You probably have seen Chinese Kung-Fu masters in Chinese films with their long mustaches which originates in both corners of their mouths & come downward? Well, that’s the Fu Manchu mustache. There was a famous fictional Chinese villain named Dr. Fu Manchu, created by British author Sax Rohmer.
This mustache style is named after him. This famous style was first seen in 1923 in the British serial “The Mystery of Dr. Fu Manchu”. From then, it has become very popular, especially in Chinese vogue.
The Fu Manchu mustache is one of the most easily recognizable mustache styles of all. The dramatically lengthen corners provide it a unique look. Generally, a Fu Manchu mustache is a combination of two straight mustache hairlines. Those lines come from the mustache hairs above your upper lip, downward to your chin. And yes, it will cross your jawline & have a hanging portion. Those hairlines are separated under your nose, those lines don’t usually connect with each other. Even though sometimes people mistake Fu Manchu mustache with Horseshoe Mustache.
The reason for this is both mustache styles include mustache hairlines from above the upper lip to downward the jawline. The main difference here is Horseshoe mustache will end up at the jawline, but in the case of the Fu Manchu mustache, it has a long straight hairline hanging from the jawline. The length of this is not fixed. You can grow it as long as you want to. It’s also the opposite of the Dali mustache where the corner edges are kept straight upward.
The Fu Manchu mustache can provide you with a tough appearance. But wearing a Fu Manchu mustache is not that easy. Actually, it’s one of those mustache styles which require a very long time for a perfect shape, not less than 5 to 6 months. If you want your mustache to look alike the Chinese movie characters then you may need to wait for years.
The process of styling Fu Manchu mustache is quite different from other mustache styles. You can not just style a Fu Manchu style in one day. As it is mentioned before, you need a very long time & patience to completely grow your Fu Manchu mustache. At this time you need to shave at least twice a week. While you are shaving, follow some simple steps which are given below. Before start shaving, you need basic shaving tools like a razor, scissor, mustache comb & shaving gel.
Now see the steps carefully –
Step 1:
You need to shave at least two times a week to keep minimum beard & make your Fu Manchu mustache visible. For a safe shaving first prepare your face by scrubbing & rinsing with lukewarm water. You can also take a hot towel and press it onto your face for 1-2 minutes. This will make the beard hair smooth & will cut easily.
Step 2:
Apply shaving gel/foam. For better visibility use clear shaving gel or shaving oil. So that any part of your mustache won’t be invisible. You, of course, don’t want to ruin all your long-time efforts by cutting the mustache by any mistake.
Step 3:
Now start shaving. Shave your chick, under the bottom lip, neck & other parts, except the mustache.
Step 4:
Start shaving the areas of your mustache. In this case, we suggest to use a single-bladed razor. Make a very small gap between your mustache and nose. Make an even line beside your mustache, look for symmetry.
Step 5:
After shaving comb your mustache with mustache comb to the downward direction.
Step 6:
Now take the scissors & cut the mustache hairs that touch your upper lip, except the corner edges. Mustache hairs are the toughest hair among your facial hairs. So take extra time & cut a little bit at a time for better results. Look for any lengthen hair or bushiness.
Step 7:
Take the comb again comb your mustache downwards. Specially comb the edges. You need to make these two corners very long, at least until they cross your jawline.
